Siddhartha Gautama was the Buddha, and the founder of Buddhism. He was born in Kapilavastu, Nepal in 563 B.C. under his parents Queen Maha Maya and King Suddhodana. Siddhartha was a prince who grew up in luxury and never had to face the troubles of the common man. Many years later at the age of 30 Siddhartha began to question the meaning of human life, so he went on a spiritual journey to find the state of nirvana. It took Siddhartha 6 years to reach nirvana when he came to a place near the town of Gaya, close to the Ganges river. At the age of 35 when he reached a state of nirvana the Buddha spent the rest of his life traveling across Northern India spreading his teachings.
